YouTube Video Tutorial: Sweet Romance Necklace/Bracelet

I just ran across Sidonia's video on Pinterest this morning and it looked like it would work perfectly as a bracelet even though she made a necklace. I omitted the large motifs and just used the small motifs and the diamond-shaped connections between them. It will make a gorgeous, delicate little bracelet. I'm also going to try making earrings with only the small motifs and a drop bead like Sidonia shows in the video. Here's a photo of my samples:
As you can see, I also tried the pattern using 3mm pearls and 3mm fire polished beads, and they both work quite well, but the bicones are my favorites. I will also try the pattern using 4mm bicones and 11/0 seed beads and see how that looks.

Click HERE to watch Sidonia's YouTube video. I also watched her "Little Dots Bracelet" video this morning and I'm going to try it out tonight. It took me a couple of hours this afternoon to get all of the instructions written down for both tutorials.

  1. Oh, I love this! REALLY love this! I have never tried a video tutorial. Seems like the ones I'm most interested in are in another language. I really want to try this! Thanks so much for finding it. Your example is gorgeous!

    1. You're right. There are some very good videos that are in Italian. In the process of watching them, you eventually start to understand what they're saying. I made some samples of Sidonia's "Little Dots" last night and I'll try to get a photo today when the light is better. I'm not sure if I'll like that one as a bracelet but it will probably make pretty earrings.

  2. I just watched the video and understood everything thoroughly. I would like to make some of the larger motifs but don't have any 8mm chatons.

    1. I really like the large motifs too but the chatons are probably too expensive for my bead budget. Oh, and I also tried the pattern using 4mm bicones and 11/0 seed beads last night and it worked perfectly. I need to take a photo of that sample today too.

  3. Surprisingly, the chatons are very inexpensive. Saw them on Etsy but they ship from England. Trying to decide what colors I'd like to do before I order.

    1. Are they the same thing as rivolis? I found some on Artbeads.com that are only 38-cents each but they only have three color choices in 8mm. I guess that's a pretty small size because the most common ones seem to be at least 12mm. Aura Crystals has some Swarovski ones but they don't list the size for the smaller ones.

    2. I did some looking around on the bead sites and the 8mm chatons go by size "ss39". I saw some on Beadaholique for around 50-cents each. They come in packs of six.

    3. Based on the photos that I've seen, I think that a chaton might have a longer, more pointy point than a rivoli.

    4. A chaton might actually be the same thing as a rivoli. When I searched the Artbeads site for "chaton ss39" it took me to a page of rivolis. They have several colors and they're around 33-cents each when not on sale (sold individually). http://www.artbeads.com/1122-amy39ss.html

  4. Hello!
I just wanted to provide a little help about the shape differences between chatons and rivolis.
The chatons have a diamond shape, faceted but more flat on front and quite pointy on the back, while rivolis are pointed on both sides but the pointed parts are smaller than the chatons pointed part. The result is that an 8mm rivoli is smaller than a chaton even if, theoretically, of the same size. So if you'd want to substitute a chaton with a rivoli in a beading project, you'll have to adjust the pattern to fit the stone.
Thank you, Linda, for featuring so many of my tutorials!
    Sidonia :-)

    1. Hi Sidonia. Nice to meet you and thanks for the tips. It seems like a lot of online bead shops use the terms interchangeably but I figured there had to be some differences. Thanks for clearing that up.
