Tiny Honeycomb Earrings Variation

  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457)
  • Honeycomb Jewel beads "Chalk Lazure Blue"
  • SuperDuo beads "Matte Chalk Picasso"

After making several pairs of "Tiny Honeycomb Earrings" with regular Honeycomb beads, I wanted to make a pair with these Honeycomb Jewel beads. They're the same size as regular Honeycomb beads but they're domed and faceted on the tops. A while back I had made the wonderful "Demoiselle Bracelet" that you see down below. I blogged about it HERE and you can buy the pattern in Sam Wescott's Etsy shop HERE. I had used the same Honeycomb Jewel beads in that bracelet and I thought it would be nice to make some earrings to go with it.

When I realized that the SuperDuos that are in the bracelet match the Honeycomb beads almost perfectly, I wanted to come up with a way to incorporate some of those SuperDuos into my earrings. What I decided to do was to connect another component to a "Tiny Honeycomb Earring" and my "SuperDuo Flower Chain" earrings seemed to be just the right size.

For my first experiment, I connected the two components with a jump ring. While that works just fine, I don't like that there is so much space between the components. So, in the end, I just stitched them together so that they share the same seed bead in the middle. Below you can see the two versions side by side:

Connecting the components was simple to do. First I made a "Tiny Honeycomb Earring" as directed. Next, I made a "SuperDuo Flower Chain" earring until I got to the step where the top loop is added. At that point I went through the bottom center 11/0 of the Honeycomb earring instead of picking up an 8/0 seed bead. I simply finished making the flower earring as usual but with the Honeycomb component attached to it.

Queen City Bead has these Honeycomb Jewel beads HERE. The SuperDuos that I used aren't available anywhere. The place where I bought them no longer has them and it was the only place I've ever seen them. They're pretty much like "Chalk Lazure Blue" but with a matte finish instead of a luster finish.

Honeycomb Bracelet & Earrings Set - Turquoise & Copper

HONEYCOMB STACKER
  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Hybrid Metallic Dusty Cedar" (YPS0014)*
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Hybrid Metallic Dusty Cedar" (YPS0014)*
  • Honeycomb beads "Green Turquoise Lumi"
  • 4mm druks "Turquoise Pink Topaz Luster"

* See my note below about this color.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can buy druks in this color anymore. I got these a very long time ago from Artbeads.com but, when I ordered some more of them recently, I found that the dye lot is now completely different and the new dye lot doesn't match these Honeycomb beads. I also looked through my fire polished beads and found the same issue. My older dye lot of 4mm "Milky Turquoise Pink Topaz Luster" fire polished beads goes perfectly with these Honeycombs. The new dye lot that I have does not. There are two other fire polished colors that might do in a pinch but they're both a darker shade of turquoise. They are "Persian Turquoise Bronze Picasso" and "Turquoise Copper Picasso". Having said that, I can't promise that there won't be a dye lot issue with them as well.

If you want to take a chance on the dye lot, Red Panda has the druks HERE. They also have the fire polished beads HERE. Aura Crystals has the "Persian Turquoise Bronze Picasso" fire polished beads HERE and the "Turquoise Copper Picasso" HERE.

Supply Emporium has the copper (Dusty Cedar) 11/0 seed beads HERE (see my note below). Claire has some 8/0 beads that go by the same name but they are purple instead of copper. Red Panda also has the copper ones in 11/0 HERE and 8/0 HERE but the 8/0 beads are nearly sold out.

NOTE: There was a color name issue with the supplier of these seed beads where they had two different colors with the same name and number. It looks like the new name and number for these copper beads is "Metallic Potter's Clay" (YPS0019). Supply Emporium just got some in but I don't know if any other bead shops or sites have them yet with the new name and number. Just be careful if you order them with the old color name and number online because you could end up with purple beads instead of copper ones. If you're not sure, ask the shop before you order them if they are copper or purple. To be sure that you get the correct color, I recommend that you buy the new "Metallic Potter's Clay" beads from Supply Emporium rather than the ones called "Metallic Dusty Cedar". Below are links to the 11/0 and 8/0 sizes:

Honeycomb Bracelet & Earrings Set - Seafoam & Caramel

HONEYCOMB STACKER
  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Bright Bronze" (221)
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Bright Bronze" (221)
  • Honeycomb beads "Hodge Podge Seafoam Luster"
  • 4mm fire polished beads "Milky Caramel"

The Honeycomb beads that I used to make today's set also have two colors on them; a tawny brownish color and a dark peachy color. Most of the beads in the batch that I have seem to be dark on one side and lighter on the other side. By putting all of the dark sides of the beads on one side of my bracelet, I have the option of wearing the bracelet inside out if I'd rather see the lighter side. The two photos above show the lighter, peachier side of the beads and the photo below shows the darker side.

Honeycomb Bracelet & Earrings Set - Seafoam & Beige

HONEYCOMB STACKER
  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Antique Bronze" (223)
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Antique Bronze" (223)
  • Honeycomb beads "Hodge Podge Seafoam"
  • 4mm druks "Opaque Dark Beige"

The Honeycomb beads that I used to make today's set have two colors on them; pale green and a creamy yellowish beige. I purposely picked out the greener ones for my bracelet so you don't really see much of the beige on them. If you go HERE to Queen City Bead, you can see how they look in the photo there.

You can get these Honeycomb beads from Queen City Bead on Etsy HERE. I bought the druks at Red Panda.
