RUSSIAN LEAF EARRINGS
- 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Galvanized Light Pewter" (DB1851)
- 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Matte Copper Plated" (DB340) *
- 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Matte Asparagus Aqua Glazed" (DB391)
- 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Matte Galvanized Muscat" (DB1165)
- 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Dyed Opaque Cactus" (DB2124)
- 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Duracoat Light Pewter" (4221)
I made this pair of earrings to go with two of my tops that both have these same colors in them. It was a challenge but I actually used five different Delica bead colors in this tiny design. The color chart below only has four colors. I replaced the green beads on the chart that run along the bottom edge with the fifth color, which is "Cactus". The only place that I used the "Muscat" beads was to make the center cross.
* I've discovered that over time these copper plated
beads tarnish and turn a dark brown color. From now on when I use this
color, I will brush clear nail polish on the front of the earring as
well as on the back. This will solve the problem because the color hasn't tarnished on the back of the earrings because I had coated with nail polish to stiffen them.

I've been trying out a few new colorways with this pattern and today's is a somewhat patriotic one. I used the color chart below to make this design. You can download the PDF for the chart HERE.
I made two more pairs of "Russian Leaf" earrings that I will blog about tomorrow and on Sunday. I also tried the colorway below but haven't decided if I like it well enough to make the other earring. I haven't put nail polish on the back of that one yet in case I end up taking it apart. Below is the color chart that I used to make this sample earring but it shows different colors.
- 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Metallic Light Bronze" (DB22L)
- 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Opaque Aloe Luster" (DB263)
- 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Opaque Semi-Matte Rusty Brown" (DB794)
- 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Opaque Dyed Juniper Berry" (DB2135)

Download my free earring color chart for the earring design at the top from THIS post. It's not a tutorial for making Russian Leaf earrings so you will still need to follow Jill's tutorial if you don't already know how to make them. My color chart describes when to pick up each bead color to make the design on these earrings. Bear in mind that I used different color beads than on the color chart but it shouldn't be too difficult to switch them out.

I previously blogged HERE about the long earring in the center of the photo below. I love the design and colors but I'm not comfortable wearing such long earrings. I'd been wanting to come up with a shorter version that I like as well as the long one and I finally had a chance to do that. Although the design isn't exactly the same, it's close enough to make me happy. I made the top section a little narrower and the fringe a whole lot shorter.
Because I put so many hours into making the longer earring, I probably won't take it apart. I will keep it and maybe one day I will be brave enough to make the second earring and wear them.
