Anka's "Caffe Latte" earrings are very popular on Pinterest and I really like the design. So, I looked to see where they came from to see if there was a pattern available. There doesn't appear to be a pattern for sale, only ready-to-wear earrings sold on SAShE.sk which is a Slovak site similar to Etsy. You can see the original earrings HERE. This is probably Anka's own design but if it's not please let me know if there is a pattern for these earrings.
In any case, I was able to figure out how to make them but I chose to leave off the extra bit at the bottom of the earrings. I've made quite a few sample earrings in various colors and I love them all. The original earrings have fire polished beads in them but bicones and druks also work just as well.
Here are some other color combinations that I've tried:
- 15/0 seed beads Toho "Antique Silver Nickel" (711)
- 11/0 seed beads Toho "Antique Silver Nickel" (711)
- 8/0 seed beads Toho "Antique Silver Nickel" (711)
- SuperDuo beads "Pastel Burgundy"
- 3mm druks "Mirror Rose"
I did have a little trouble with the silver seed beads causing the earring to be slightly warped. I'll probably stick with Miyuki seed beads with this pattern.
- 15/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
- 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
- 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
- SuperDuo beads "Opaque Rose Gold Topaz Luster"
- 3mm bicones "Light Topaz AB"
- 15/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457D)
- 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457D)
- 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457D)
- SuperDuo beads "Purple Iris Matte"
- 3mm druks "Metallic Suede Pink"
- 15/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457D)
- 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457D)
- 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457D)
- SuperDuo beads "Metallic Suede Teal"
- 3mm fire polished beads "Viridian Celsian"

- 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)

- 3mm fire bicones "Light Topaz AB - #207" (from China)
- 15/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457D)
- 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457D)
- 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457D)
- SuperDuo beads "Chalk Copper Picasso"
- 3mm fire polished beads "Bronze Olivine"
The two sample earrings above were my first attempts and I tried some different things with them. The one on the right has the alternating SuperDuo colors as in Anka's original but I wasn't happy with that look for some reason. I also tried a couple of different ways of attaching the wire at the top and some of my other samples have another kind of loop.
The pair at the top of my post goes very well with a "SuperDuo Flower Chain" bracelet that I made a while back. You can download the free bracelet pattern from THIS post.
The earrings are just gorgeous! I wish a pattern was available. I like all of your colors. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI figured out the pattern and made both the long version and the shorter version but added picots to the15/0- 11/0-15/0 sections of the bottom edge of the shorter version, They turned out so pretty. I will make several colors of the shorter version because they look less formal and could be worn with casual cloths, Thanks so much for sharing. Ann
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a cute idea adding picots. I like the look of the longer version but I don't like leaving open SuperDuo holes. Do you have any photos of your earrings, Ann?
DeleteJust gorgeous. You are very clever to do a pattern by just looking at the picture.I can do that too but when I get stringing it....LOL......what a mess.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda,
ReplyDeleteI love the earrings. Is there a pattern?
I don't know of one. I just looked closely at her photos and figured it out.
DeleteHermosos me fascinan
ReplyDeleteHi Linda,
ReplyDeletethe earrings are really gorgeous :)
I found the similar one at
http://www.sashe.sk/LenusM/detail/red-flowers
I hadn't seen that shop before and you're right. They are the same earrings but without the bottom part. I think she may have been reading my blog because she also made the top part like I did on some of mine.
DeleteI know that she's been reading my blog because she also has some of my "Bethany Earrings" for sale HERE
DeleteNot sure what happened with my link. Click HERE
Deleteyes, it seems that more slovak girls love your work :) like I do :)
DeleteI found another one

Although that isn't my pattern, I can tell that she was also influenced by my blog because I've blogged about most of the earrings that she's selling. Several of them are Deb Roberti's designs. I also saw a pair of NannyPink's earrings there.
Deleteunfortunately you`re right.
ReplyDeleteI admire your work, your blog but also I hope I`ll find my onw way with beads or how to do something special or original :)
All beadwork is special, even when it's not our own design. We put our personal touch on it when we choose colors that appeal to us.
