Bracelet of the Day: SuperDuo Flower Chain Bracelet

SUPERDUO FLOWER CHAIN BRACELET
  • 11/0 seed beads "Dark Bronze" (11-457D)
  • SuperDuo beads "Light Blue Picasso"

I don't remember where I got the inspiration for the flower motifs but the little links in between them are based on the ones in Kelly Dale's "Fun Floral Necklace". Check out Kelly's video on YouTube: Fun Floral Necklace Tutorial. Kelly also has lots of patterns and beading kits for sale in her Off the Beaded Path Etsy shop.

Since this bracelet, and also the earring pattern below, are my own creation, I'm posting the tutorials here for you to download:

    1. I just tried downloading both files and had no problem. Try it again. Maybe there was a problem with that site earlier.

    2. Karon, the links are both working for me right now. When you click on the link, wait a few seconds for the download dialog box to pop up. Or, try right-clicking on the link and choose "Save link as..." and see if that helps.

    1. I know that the link works because 180 people have downloaded it. I just downloaded it myself to make sure I got the correct file and I did get the PDF pattern. There was a problem with the download site a few days ago where it was taking a long time for the page to open but it seems fine today.

    2. I think I know what the problem is. You MUST click on the link and go to the download page to get the PDF file. Right-clicking on the link and choosing "Save link as" won't work. I'm using a free file upload service called TinyUpload and one of their rules is that everyone has to click the link from the TinyUpload page to download the file.

    2. The website stated that "the file was deleted from the server". Can you please share it again? I really love the bracelet and just today found this site, thanks. FS

    3. That's very strange since they said your files remain there forever. I'll check it out.

    4. I just found this on the TinyUpload site: "Files are stored on TinyUpload.com's server forever, unless they are not downloaded for 100 days". That file hadn't even been on their server that long and it had been downloaded hundreds of times. I'll try uploading it again and post a new link.

I suspect that TinyUpload had a server crash and files got deleted. I couldn't even load their site at all yesterday.

    1. I usually buy mine from Aura Crystals, Red Panda, Charlene's Beads and Aria Design Studio. There are links to all of those shops on the right hand side of the page.

    2. Thanks so much for the reply. I've been buying from Fire Mountain or Michael (only if on sale). I've been having health issues for quite some time, and I've tried different things to try to distract me for the pain and ickyness. Then, last August, I started trying my hand at jewelr making, and since then I've been totally (maybe even insanely) hooked. I just I still really need to find out which places are best for selling what supplies. Like, who's best to go to to get sterling wire or silver filled? Who's the best to get seed beads and super-duos? Fire Mountain has been great, but there's just some stuff they don't carry. I find it a little scary trying out other supplier, but I will look into the ones you've suggested. Again, thanks so much. Any other advise would be greatly appreciated.

  25. Good evening, Linda --

Can you let me know the thread lengths necessary for both projects? If the patterns work for me, I wouldn't mind donating to your site.

    Thanks,

    1. Hi Erika. I checked my patterns and I didn't make note of the amount of thread that I used and it's been a while since I last made those two patterns. The earrings won't use much thread at all, maybe a yard or two, because there's not much to them. However, you might want to start with about 4 yards of thread for the bracelet. I seem to recall that it did use a fair amount of thread because you go around the motifs so many times.

  26. Thank you Linda, for offering this pattern for the bracelet and earrings. I look forward to trying them. CaroB

  27. Hi Linda. Thank you so much for these patterns. I just bought superduo beads and tried to make the earring pattern, but I have a doubt: do you use both threads (tail thread and working thread) or only the working thread? What do you mean when you say "weave in the tail tread?" I'm sorry, I'm a beginner and my english is not that good :) Thanks a lot anyway, Aurelie

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Aurelie. When you add the first beads to the thread, leave a tail a few inches long or long enough to thread on your needle and go back around through the beadwork. Use the working thread to make the earrings and just let the tail thread hang until you have finished. When you have finished the earring you need to secure and hide the working and tail threads. To do this, weave around through the beadwork so that the ends of the thread can't come loose before you cut them off close to the beads. It's best to weave around and around in different directions when possible for the most security. You don't have to follow any particular thread path when you do this, just make sure that you do it so that the thread doesn't show.

    2. Thank you for your quick answer, it's much clearer for me :) Regards, Aurelie

  30. Hi, I'm very new to beading, and I'm having troubles. Can you advise me? I'm trying to make this bracelet, but I'm using toho 11/0. I'm finding huge gapping around the link superduo bead. Do I need to use miyuki or am I doing it wrong?! Lol thanks for your time.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi. I don't recall if I've made any using Toho beads. I'll give it a try and get back to you. It's very possible that the Toho beads are the problem.

      Delete
    2. OK, I think I see the gaps that you're talking about. I don't know why I didn't say to do this in the instructions but you can easily snug up the links by skipping the 11/0 beads on either ends of the links. When you weave around to reinforce the seed beads, skip the center bead on each end of the link as you go around and pull the other beads snug next to them them. This sort of closes the gaps.

I think that this was the very first beading tutorial that I posted here on my blog and I think I should probably re-write it one of these days.

    3. Thank you, Andle and Linda! I am also using Toho beads, and had the same question. I haven't learned all the subtleties of different kinds of seed beads yet. I gave your suggestion a try, and it helps a lot. I had tried using three instead of five beads around the ends, but that takes out too much. Tightening the beads they way you suggest also gives it a nicer, elongated shape.

    4. I'm happy to hear that it helped, Katy.

  35. Hi, Linda! Thank you for sharing your beautiful patterns. I need to make the bracelet a bit longer by starting and ending with the single bead motif. I can’t wrap my brain around how to begin and add the clasp. Can you point me to the steps to start? Thanks!

    1. Hi Auntie M. I will have to take a look at the pattern and get back to you. Are you wanting to add onto a bracelet that you've already made?
