Beading Video - Russian Doll Earring Samples

When I saw these beautiful earrings on the Sonysree Creations YouTube channel, I had to give them a try. You can watch her video HERE. Although they are pretty, I have decided not to make the mates to these two sample earrings. I'm very fussy about neat netting and it's a struggle to keep this netting looking as orderly as I'd like. It may look fine in these photos, but that's because I manually arranged the netting as well as I could.

I also had to use a little different method to make these because she leaves thread showing on the outside of a lot of the beads. Doing that isn't acceptable to me. Instead of following her thread path, after beading each section of the netting, I right away wove my way to the other side of the earring and wove the same section of netting on the other side. This eliminated the need to leave thread showing on the outside of some of the beads. I also added an 8/0 seed bead at the top of my earrings for inserting a jump ring.

  1. What a lovely pair of earrings! The earring would also make a nice pendant. Thanks so much for sharing the Sonsree link. I have used several of their patterns and they are wonderful.

    1. I love the design too. I just wish that the netting would stay neat and tidy. The beadwork might be a little too soft for a pendant but maybe you can stiffen it somehow.

    2. Use the Johnson floor wax tip I submitted. It works really well!

  3. I’ve sometimes put earrings into Johnson’s floor wax to stiffen them into the “proper position”. A quick dip then lay them on a folded sheet of wax paper till they dry. Arrange them as soon as you lay them onto the wax paper. I don’t put the earring hook into the wax of course.

    1. I did a search for Johnson's floor wax and I don't think they make it anymore, at least for home use. The only thing I could find was a spray for wood floors and some industrial products.
