Pinterest and YouTube

Has anyone else noticed that since yesterday, Pinterest has made it very complicated to pin any YouTube videos? You can no longer watch them through Pinterest either. All you get is an error message. You must click the "Visit Site" button above the video window and go to the YouTube page containing the video. Then, to pin a video from YouTube, you need to click on the name of the channel, then click on "Videos". This opens the page where all of the person's videos are listed. Then, you have to click the Pin It button on your browser toolbar and then scroll through all of the videos on that channel to find the one you want to pin. If you want to pin more than one, you'll need to scroll through the whole list again to find it. What a pain in the neck. Whatever was Pinterest thinking when they did this???

UPDATE 3/12/15: I see that Pinterest has finally fixed the problem with YouTube videos not displaying in Pinterest!

  1. YES! And more than that for me. Sometimes when I go to my Pinterest page, my Boards are gone. It's just empty. Or I go to someone's Board, and there are no pins beyond the initial screen, even though I know hundreds are there--there's just no scrollbar. I have to restart Firefox to see them. Pinterest works for a while and then the same thing. I've tried clearing my cookies and cache in Firefox, it works for a while and then it stops. I try to pin something and I can't scroll down through the drop box of my Boards to pick one. I just keep hoping this is all a Firefox issue and they will fix it soon.

    1. I'm also using Firefox and the problem just started for me yesterday. I pinned a video in the morning and it worked like it always had. By yesterday afternoon I was getting that error message in the video window and then I saw the new dialog box for pinning stuff. It's very cumbersome this new box. Firefox has been nagging me today to install the latest update but will it fix the problem or make it worse???

  2. Hi Linda, I checked Firefox and Internet Explorer. The same problem in both browsers. It's really annoying. Looks like Pinterest made some updates. I hope it will be fixed. Best regards, Raisa

  4. Yes! They've made it unnecessarily difficult...especially from an iPad using Safari! I love everything that you and Deb Roberti post!

    1. I didn't think to try it on my tablet. I hope they're getting so many complaints that they'll go back to what worked perfectly fine before.

    2. Oddly enough, YouTube videos do display in Pinterest in Firefox on my Android tablet and I can watch them from there. I have no idea how to pin something with Pinterest on my tablet so I haven't tried that.

  6. I found a way how to pin a youtube video. Click the 'Share' button below the video. A lot of buttons will appear, click the 'Pinterest' button. Best regards, Raisa

    1. You're a genius, Raisa! I never would have thought to do that. I wonder if that option has been there all along.

    3. Hi Linda,
It was my comment at 8:38am; sorry, I put it in the wrong place (Comment instead of a Reply). Wanted to inform Pinterest about this issue but could not locate an appropriate board/topic/discussion on Pinterest/Pinterest. The problem could be caused by YouTube updates and not Pinterest updates. I installed Google Chrome, and can confirm videos are working fine there. Best regards, Raisa

    4. I thought that was probably posted by you, Raisa. It could be a YouTube update that caused the problem but it started happening the same day that Pinterest changed the Pin It dialog box. They also changed the look of the page where you choose which pictures to pin that same day. It seems more likely that all those changes broke something between Pinterest, Firefox and YouTube.

    5. I was curious so I installed Google Chrome and you're right that YouTube videos do play inside Pinterest on Chrome. However, trying to pin a video from YouTube is broken in Chrome just like in Firefox. The page just turns black and there's no Pin It option. Your "Share" trick does work though. I'm not likely to use Chrome for more than just testing things because of the YouTube ads. I had no idea they were there and they're very annoying. I block the ads in Firefox.

    6. I did not even try to pin a video in Chrome (I forgot how to install the pin button). I was getting the YouTube ads at the beginning of the video all the time in Internet Explorer, Firefox and now in Chrome. I didn't know we can block ads. My test video was one of Sidonia's videos. The button More gives 3 choices, one of them is Transcript. I was trying this too. The voice recognition program expects perfect English, so the transcript looks nothing like a beading video. It has words: I am crying, crime, porn, home, honeymoon ... Enough of testing ;-). Have a good week. Best regards, Raisa

    7. I never realized that there were so many ads in the YouTube videos until I viewed them in Chrome this evening. I have AdBlock Plus installed in Firefox so I don't see those ads. You can install that plugin for Firefox HERE. I managed to find and add the Pinterest "Pin It" button to my toolbar in Chrome. HERE is the link to where to get it.

    8. Linda, thank you so much for info about AdBlock. Your link didn't work for me, but I found another link in case somebody is interested

    9. Thanks for the correct link, Raisa. I see now that somehow an extra character got tacked onto the end of the URL that I posted.

    10. Raisa, I won't post your other comment with the long URL but I wanted to let you know something about AdBlock. You can disable it for any site you like when there is a problem such as on your financial site that you mentioned. You go to the Tools menu in Firefox and click on AdBlock Plus. In that menu there are options to disable it for an entire website or just the current page.

  7. Thank you Linda. I was so lost after the latest updates. Found an old article and tested what works now http://google.about.com/od/youtube/ss/How-To-Post-A-Youtube-Video-On-Pinterest.-22B.htm
