Playing with my beads...

I saw a bracelet for sale in an Etsy shop called Sterling Sky a while back and it wasn't too difficult to figure out the basic stitch. The shop, which you can visit HERE, is currently closed and I can't recall if Krista sold patterns or ready-to-wear beaded jewelry. I'm calling the pattern "Krista Bracelet" after the name of the shop owner. Krista made hers with regular Tila beads. My friend, Teejay, made the bracelet below with Half Tila beads for me for Christmas and it inspired me to come up with a bunch of other color combinations for this design.

UPDATE 2/25/22: It turns out that what I was calling the "Krista Bracelet" may be a variation of the "River Walk Bracelet" pattern by Jewelry Tales which you can buy HERE on Etsy. You can also download a free copy HERE on the Bead Smith site. The difference is that "River Walk" has seed beads between the SuperDuo beads and the tile beads.

Below are the color combinations that I came up with. I bought all of the SuperDuo beads used in these samples from Aria Design Studio.
Sample #1:
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (11-457D)
  • Half Tila beads "Dark Bronze Metallic Matte" (HT-2006)
  • SuperDuo beads "Halo Regal"
I added some embellishments to this sample and I like it very much this way. I started by adding 11/0 seed beads on both sides of each Half Tila and then added netting between them. That worked perfectly with these particular beads but not so well in sample #2. The seed beads in that sample are too irregular so it puckered. This wasn't an issue with sample #3 even though I used the same beads. It was that in-between seed bead that caused the problem.

Sample #2:

  • 11/0 seed beads "Dark Copper" (11-459G - unknown brand)
  • Half Tila beads "Matte Metallic Copper" (HT-2005)
  • SuperDuo beads "Pastel Montana Blue"
Sample #3:
  • 11/0 seed beads "Dark Copper" (11-459G - unknown brand)
  • Half Tila beads "Matte Metallic Copper" (HT-2005)
  • SuperDuo beads "Pastel Montana Blue"
Sample #4:
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (11-457D)
  • Half Tila beads "Dark Bronze Metallic Matte" (HT-2006)
  • SuperDuo beads "Halo Regal"
Sample #5:
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (11-457D)
  • Half Tila beads "Metallic Dark Bronze" (HT-457)
  • SuperDuo beads "Opaque Green Luster Iris"
It's hard to see in the photo of this sample but the SuperDuos are multi-colored and not just solid gold. The extra colors on them keep this combo from being too boring. I think they'll be more visible in a complete bracelet.

Sample #6:

  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (11-457D)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Hybrid Opaque Turquoise Blue Picasso" (8-4514)
  • Half Tila beads "Green Iris Metallic Matte" (HT-2008)
  • SuperDuo beads "Green Turquoise Senegal Matte"
This sample has the added seed beads between the SuperDuos again but 8/0 beads this time. They work well with these beads but they might not play nice with other SuperDuos. You'll just have to try adding them and see if they fit.

Sample #7:

  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Steel" (11-480)
  • Half Tila beads "Galvanized Grey Luster" (HT-1865)
  • SuperDuo beads "Polychrome Orchid Aqua"
This combo is one of my favorites. I love how the polychrome SuperDuos look with the silvery Half Tilas and seed beads. The color changes depending on the light. Sometimes they look more aqua and other times they look mauve.

Sample #8:

  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (11-457L)
  • Half Tila beads "Khaki Iris" (HT-2035)
  • SuperDuo beads "Crystal Pink Luster"

  4. It's actually very similar to Sam Wescott's "Toying with Tiles" pattern which you can buy in her Etsy shop HERE

  5. I tried this, but is it supposed to curl? It seems like it doesn't want to go straight. Or do you think I am doing something wrong?

    1. As I mentioned in my post, it seems to depend on the beads that you use. The seed beads as well as the Superduos can make a difference.

  6. I tried making it and one came out great, but the next one came out curved. Any ideas?

    1. Unfortunately there never was a pattern for it and the original site where I saw the photo is no longer online.
