I also wanted to mention my latest beading toy. It's a Thread Zap II by BeadSmith. I probably never would have splurged on one but I had a 40% off Hobby Lobby Coupon and I also had a Hobby Lobby gift card that I'd gotten for my birthday. I found out later that Hobby Lobby charges about 40% more for it than Walmart but it didn't cost me anything because I had the gift card. I'm really loving it. I always have a hard time clipping my thread ends because my scissors don't get close enough to the beads to hide the threads. Having little threads sticking out really bugs me. That's no longer an issue with the Thread Zap. It melts those stray thread ends so that they are hidden inside the beads and it only takes seconds for the tip to heat up. If you need a gift idea for a fellow beader, this might be a good choice.

If you've used a Thread Zap II, let me know what you think of it in the comments. I'd also like to know if anyone has had problems with it because I just saw online that they sell replacement tips for them. That makes me wonder what might go wrong that makes replacing the tip necessary. HERE is a link to the Thread Zap II on the Hobby Lobby site. There are only two reviews. One raves about it and the other review is a complaint but I have no idea what they're talking about. There are no screws on the device and I don't see any way that the cap can pop off. It's very secure.

Bracelet of the Day: Elinor Bracelet - Blue Haze & Pewter

ELINOR BRACELET
  • 15/0 seed beads Miyuki "Duracoat Galvanized Pewter" (D4222)
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Duracoat Galvanized Pewter" (D4222)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Duracoat Galvanized Pewter" (D4222)
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Higher Metallic Matte Blue Haze" (512F)
  • SuperDuo beads "Pearl Luster"
  • 4mm druks "Opal Light Turquoise"

I think that this might be my all-time favorite "Elinor" bracelet. I bought the "Pearl Luster" SuperDuo beads at a local shop. I haven't seen them anywhere online but it's possible that they go by another name. They're semi-matte metallic in a pewter color. Although the druks are called "turquoise", they're actually a very pale mint green color. I found them in the DrBead Etsy shop.

Bracelet of the Day: Elinor Bracelet - Ruby & Hematite

ELINOR BRACELET
  • 15/0 seed beads Toho "Metallic Hematite" (81)
  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Metallic Hematite" (81)
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Metallic Hematite" (81)
  • SuperDuo beads "Ruby Red Wine"
  • 4mm druks "Metallic Amethyst Luster"

I don't use hematite as my "metal" color very often but I was experimenting with different metallic seed beads with the "Elinor" pattern to see how they would look. I have to say that it looks very nice and the color goes quite well with the ruby SuperDuo beads. I didn't have a suitable 8/0 seed bead accent color for this color combination so I just used all hematite beads.

"Elinor Bracelet" pattern update

While making some matching earrings, I thought of a simple way to improve the stability and neatness of the inner "chains" of the motif. So, I've uploaded an updated version of the pattern which you can download from my original post HERE. I've replaced the old version of the pattern PDF file with the updated version so, if you are downloading it for the first time, you will be getting the updated version.

If you've already printed the pattern, simply print page two of the updated version and replace the original page two with this one. The only change is in Step #10. The rest of the tutorial is still the same.

Bracelet of the Day: Elinor Bracelet - Purple & Olivine

ELINOR BRACELET
  • 15/0 seed beads Miyuki "Olivine" (458)
  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Metallic Bronze Iris" (83)
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Metallic Bronze Iris" (83)
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Gold Luster Moon Shadow" (328)
  • SuperDuo beads "Polychrome Black Currant"
  • 4mm druks "Amethyst Luster"

It was difficult to get a good photo of this bracelet because the beads are so dark. The SuperDuo beads are an intense deep purple color and they're not "polychrome" like the appear in the photo. I just happened to have druks and 8/0 seed beads in nearly the same color and finish and they go very nicely with the Superduos.

Bracelet of the Day: Elinor Bracelet - Olive Green

ELINOR BRACELET
  • 15/0 seed beads Toho "Antique Bronze" (223)
  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Antique Bronze" (223)
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Antique Bronze" (223)
  • SuperDuo beads "Opaque Green Luster Iris"
  • 4mm druks "Matte Hurricane Lace Lichen"

To make this bracelet a little shorter, due to using Toho seed beads, I removed two of the druks. That actually made it a little too snug for me so I just added two extra jump rings to the clasp. Because of the way the motifs are made, that was really my only option for changing the length. Below you can see yesterday's and today's bracelets side by side. As you can see, the yellow one is longer and there are five druks in that one and only three in today's. I also did something a little different with the SuperDuo motifs. I arranged them so that they all face the same direction on each side of the center druk and each side of the bracelet is a mirror image of the other.
