Native American Fringe Earrings - Moody Blue & Black

  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Metallic Chocolate" (461)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Metallic Bronze" (DB22)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Opaque Matte Black" (DB310)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Opaque Luster Newsprint" (DB261)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Dyed Opaque Moody Blue" (DB2129)

This is the same design that I blogged about HERE except that I used different colors this time. Three of the four colors are the same as the sample earring that I blogged about HERE but I switched out the pink Delicas for pale blue ones. This is one of my favorite designs that I've adapted from one of Anna's patterns. Check out her free pattern blog HERE.

You can buy Delica beads at Red Panda, Aura Crystals, Supply Emporium and Baubles & Beads.

While browsing Pinterest yesterday, I came across THIS photo tutorial on Anna's blog showing the process that she uses to make a pair of her earrings. One interesting thing is that she makes the top part of her earring with Peyote stitch instead of Brick stitch. Another thing is that she starts adding her fringe from somewhere near the middle. There is no text to go with the photos so there's no explanation for why she does it this way.

    1. I do like Peyote stitch but I also enjoy doing Brick stitch. Is there a particular reason why you prefer to do these with Peyote?

I find it easier amd faster. If you rotate your work amd your schema 90°, you can go "row by row; threads only pass inside and not over beads; since most (or could we say ALL) these patterns are simmetric, after the first half you can forget your schema 'cause it's there in your hands!
      But...it's up to you!

    3. That's a great tip to turn the schema the other direction. I did notice while making the Russian Leaf earrings that I could simply create a mirror image on the second side using the first side as a guide.

    4. Hi Linda, today’s colorway is great! This earrings are just stunning! I looked at Anna’s blog, and she does mention brick stitch for her earrings as well, but probably mostly she is using peyote. The mini Russian Leaf earrings schema is done exactly the way you describe. It starts with a stop bead at half of the thread from middle (top/inner part) of the earrings. After one side is done, the work is turned around, and second side is just a mirror image. This way the earrings could be easily adjusted to a desired size before they are finally assembled (rows could be added/removed on each side). Best, Raisa

    5. I love this pair so much that I've been wearing them for three days in a row! They are just the size and style that I like the best so I will probably make several pairs with the same design but in different colorways.
