Beading News: Miyuki "Metallic Chocolate" seed beads!!!

I wonder if someone from Miyuki has been reading my blog. If you read my blog regularly, you probably have heard me whine about how this wonderful metallic seed bead color only came in size 11/0. Well, I'm excited to tell you that they are now making Metallic Chocolate (461) in 15/0, 11/0, 8/0 and even 6/0! When I first found out a week or so ago, through a comment here on my blog, the only places that I could find them were on wholesale bead sites. I couldn't find any retail sites that had the new sizes. So, I contacted Betsy at Red Panda and asked her if she could get them and she did. She has them in 15/0, 11/0 and 8/0. I placed an order from her yesterday so I should have them very soon. I will let you know when I find this color on other bead sites but for now Red Panda is the only place that has them.

Metallic Chocolate is a very dark bronze that is almost copper. It's the prettiest shade of copper that I've seen in seed beads and they give beadwork a vintage look that I love. I'm so happy that I'll be able to use this color with patterns that call for seed bead sizes other than just 11/0. And, I'm especially pleased that they're made by Miyuki rather than Toho. Miyuki's 15/0 seed beads are so much nicer than Toho's.

Here are some examples of bracelets and earrings that I've made with this color:

  1. Thank you so much for the information Linda. What is this delightful bracelet/earring pattern in rose & copper that you've shown in the last photo? Is this your own design or can it be purchased somewhere. It's lovely!

    1. I blogged about them HERE and HERE. They're both patterns by Deb Roberti; Bow Tie Bracelet and Printemps Earrings. The bracelet pattern is for sale and the earring pattern is free. You'll find links to them in those posts.

  2. Since I love chocolate, I am certain I will be ordering these chocolate seed beads especially in 15/0, 11/0 and 8/0. I like your first two bracelets you made with them. I also sometimes prefer Miyuki and sometimes prefer Toho. Recently I made a diamond chain bracelet with Miyuki Duracoat silver 11/0's and crystals. The coating in this tube of 11/0's seemed smudged (like the finish is "rough") hard to explain but the tube I have of Toho's are nice and smooth with their permanent finish. However, I have opened one package of Toho's that the finish seemed smudged also. Has anyone experienced any "smudged" beads by Miyuki or Toho with the Duracoat or Permanent finishes? Nelly

    1. So far I haven't run into that problem, Nelly. I don't like the sound of that at all.
