Video Tutorial - Esmeralda Earrings

I just saw a link to this YouTube video tutorial this morning on Pinterest and decided to try it right away. There are a lot of steps but the tutorial is easy to follow because you just repeat the same steps over and over pretty much. I watched it through once to see what was involved and then took notes the second time through so that I could make my samples while sitting on the couch rather than in front of my computer. You can watch the video HERE.

You can buy the pattern for these earrings HERE on Etsy.

The earrings come out very large but not at all heavy. I've never worn any earrings this big before but my husband said he likes them. With the right outfit, I think I could get used to wearing them.

Next, I wanted to try scaling down the sizes of the beads and see how a smaller earring would look. Smaller beads work just as well, but not with rondelles, which she offers as alternative to round beads. At first I tried rondelles but the earring came out too wonky so I used druks instead. They work great. Even the smaller earring is larger than anything I've worn before but it's very pretty. I just wish that I had more bead color options for making the smaller ones. None of my 3mm bicones go with any of my other 3mm round beads. I do like the bit of sparkle from the bicones but maybe I'll try making a sample with 3mm druks in two coordinating colors.

  1. What magnificent earrings! Your colors are wonderful. This might also make a nice pendant. Thanks for finding this!

    1. It's certainly large enough for a pendant.

    2. The large one is 2 inches from top to bottom, not counting the earring wire.

  2. I just made a sample of the small version using 3mm druks only and in just one color. It looks really nice that way. I'll try to take a photo of my sample tomorrow and will post it here. Using one color is much easier than trying to find two coordinating colors. I've also found a few more color combos that I will try tonight for making the small version.

  3. Love your eye for color ~ really sweet combinations for this uniquely Victorian-esque design.

    1. Thanks, Sharon. I think I'd call them more Art Nouveau than Victorian. Stay tuned because I made a few more samples that I like even better. I've also definitely decided that I prefer the smaller version.

  5. Gorgeous and elegant earrings! Watched for a bit bc I would love to make a few pairs for gifts. Gave up bc this lady won't move her fingers out of the way so I can see each step of the work. Add to that she moves so swiftly that I would have trouble keeping up. Some of us bead gals might be older and not so nimble fingered...

    1. Thanks Karen. You can buy the pattern on Etsy and there is a link to it in my post. I don't have a copy of it but someone posted a comment in her Etsy shop that says that it's easy to follow and there are photos for every step.
