Sneak Peek: Lovely Lace Bracelet sample

Yesterday I got the rough version of Teejay's "Lovely Lace Bracelet" tutorial and gave it a run-through last night. It came out perfectly even though I inadvertently changed some of the beads. When I posted HERE the other day about the bracelet Teejay had sent me, I thought that she had used 3mm druks for the connectors between the motifs. It turns out that she actually used 8/0 seed beads that are the same color as some 3mm druks that I have by the same color name. So, the sample in the photo below has druks for the connectors and I will now go and make another sample using 8/0 seed beads to see what difference they make. After I make some more samples, I'll start working on the final version of the tutorial and will post it here as a free download. I'll get it made as quickly as I can so please be patient.

These are the beads that I used to make this sample:

  • 15/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (15-457D)
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (11-457D)
  • 3mm druks "Jet Copper Picasso" (no longer available)
  • 3mm druks "Rose Pink" (Nirvana Beads)
  • 3mm druks "Bronze"

  1. I am so looking forward to this! I think I may like the druks better than the 8's as connectors. You mention Nirvana Beads, which is a wholesale house with a $150 minimum as a source of the druks. Can you help me find a source of nice druks elsewhere? I am running out of them and don't see any that appeal to me at my usual sources.

    1. Hi Jeanie. I got the druks at a local shop and they told me that Nirvana was their supplier. I'm thinking about writing a post about where to find druks one of these days. The trouble is that a lot of the sources I've used have disappeared or they no longer carry druks. I've been very lucky to find a lot of the ones I've got in my stash. For now, I think that Red Panda, Aura Crystals and Artbeads.com are about the best sources. Aura only has 4mm druks though. The other two have pretty good selections of 3mm.

    2. Hi: I found a smaller selection of 3mm druks at Aria Design Studio -- thru Etsy.

    3. I hadn't noticed those druks in Aria's shop before. Thanks for letting me know. There are seven colors and you can find them by searching for "druks" or browse the "Czech Beads/FIREPOLISH" category.

  3. hi the only reason i picked the 8's is because i am so stingy with my special beads i like to horde my beads and look and then put them back ...BUT
there are an infinite selection of 8's some real beauties and they are so under rated .. and they 'snook' up (a very very technical term snooking) beautifully ... so yep i love lindas i knew i would tho .. but i believe if you change just a few beads you will get a totally different sorta beauty ... erm ... i will shut up now...T.

    1. I'm making progress on the tutorial and just finished creating the illustrations. Last night I made several samples with 8's in different places and I even made one with 4mm druks in the centers. I need to take some photos of the samples and then get back to work on the tutorial.

  4. I definitely want to make this bracelet. I like your taste in beads and colors. I have been beading for 1 1/2 years and have bought many patterns mentioned in your blog. You have given me the confidence to play with my beads.

    1. There's no need to be afraid to try new things with beading because you can always take your work apart and start over or use the beads for something else if it doesn't work out. It's like having an "undo" button.

  5. Hi Linda: I don't want to use your blog to advertise for my self, but if anyone is interest I do carry some 3 and 4mm druks in my Etsy shop. I can be reached at undercoveroflightness@hotmail.ca if you would like a link to the shop.

  6. I came to your blog through Pinterest, and am thrilled to have found it! I love your sense of balance and design in this piece. I actually thought the connectors were Pellet beads at first. Thank you so much for kindly sharing your creativity.

  8. The website firemountaingems.com also has druks available in 3 mm size. They don’t have a huge selection of color, but they’re not expensive.
