Bracelet of the Day: Toying with Tiles

TOYING WITH TILES BRACELET
  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Hybrid Light Beige Picasso" (11-Y306)
  • 15/0 seed beads "Metallic Chocolate" (no info available)
  • CzechMates "Milky Caramel Bronze Picasso"
  • SuperDuo beads "Matte Ultra Green Luster"
  • Copper magnet clasp (from Michael's Crafts)
You can buy this pattern HERE in Sam Wescott's Etsy shop. She's also the creator of the "SuperDuo Rosette" pattern that I like so much. I made a couple of tweaks to my bracelet. I got them from Laurie Brennan, who's a member of my group Pinterest board. The first tweak is a clever trick where you add two of the netting seed beads at the same time that you add the SuperDuo beads. Later you add the other four beads of the netting by going through the two "anchor" beads. This keeps the netting firmly in place. The second tweak was adding columns of four 15/0 seed beads in the gaps between the CzechMates. I think it's a nice touch.

This pattern takes a lot of thread and you will need to add more. I started with four yards and still needed to add more. I think it's a good idea to use a loose tension with this pattern if you're going to use the netting anchor beads and add the extra seed beads between the tiles. Keeping your work somewhat loose results in more space between the tiles to squeeze in the extra beads. It also keeps the netting beads from getting too crowded.

You can see a beautiful version of this bracelet in Laurie's Etsy shop, Chained by Lightness, HERE. HERE is one more color variation by Laurie.

  2. I bought the pattern but it doesn't show how to add the beads between the Tila beads? I love this bracelet.

    1. It's been a while since I last made that pattern but I'm sure that it must show how to add those beads. I'll check the pattern and get back to you.

Oops, I just read my post and I see that it was something that I'd added. I will look for my copy of the pattern and see if I wrote down what I did.

    2. Unfortunately, I didn't write down what I did. I can't remember if I added those extra beads at the end or during the process of making the bracelet.

Basically what I did was go up through one hole of a SuperDuo and across and down through the other hole. I picked up four 15/0 seed beads and went across to the other side of the bracelet and through a hole in the SuperDuo on the other side. I then went down through the other hole in that SuperDuo and back through the seed beads and through the SuperDuo on the other side again to reinforce them.

One note that I did jot down on my pattern was that I needed to keep my tension a little loose when adding the CzechMates so that there would be enough space between them to add those extra beads.
